2024 Year in Review: Extending Airship’s Leadership in Cross-Channel Customer Experience

Like most years in a connected world, 2024 saw many transformative events — the Olympics and other major sports tournaments, elections across the world, global conflict and natural disasters, just to name a few. Each had a profound impact on the way that consumers navigate the world, evolving how they follow, learn, shop, spend, travel and consume media.

Here at Airship, these events translated to brands sending more cross-channel, outbound messages to inform and engage customers, and delivering more inbound experiences to capture attention and dollars. We saw brands that prioritized coordinating outbound messaging with inbound experiences win big — a 34% average increase in purchase frequency. In 2024, delivering seamless and coordinated customer interactions became table stakes.

Airship has a long history of first-to-market offerings — designed to help our customers meet every moment — and 2024 was no different. We introduced several major innovations to empower growth teams to create, test and optimize personalized experiences across channels and conversion destinations. Here are a few highlights from the year that we hope will deliver even greater value to you in 2025:

Expanding No-Code Web + App Experiences

With the Airship Experience Editor, customer-facing teams can create and optimize dynamic, no-code experiences through a seamless drag and drop user interface — all without ongoing developer support. In 2024, we expanded our web capabilities, empowering brands to coordinate and deploy experiences across apps and websites (mobile and desktop) to consistently drive activation, education and promotions. 

To build on the variety of pop-up experiences already available (modal, full screen, carousels and stories), we introduced Embedded Content — multi-screen experiences that can be embedded inline within your app or website. These interactive experiences don’t disrupt your customers’ sessions and remain accessible throughout their visit. And, Containers allow you to create even more customized experiences without a designer, reducing overall time to market.

Scaling Customer Insights with Data Collection

Our web expansion opened up new opportunities to reach customers wherever they choose to engage with your brand and gather valuable zero-party and first-party data. You can now build targeted app and web experiences without code to collect customer interests, sentiment and preferences, and build richer customer profiles. This empowers you to scale personalization, improve segmentation and future-proof customer understanding in the age of deprecation.

Accelerating Cross-Channel Journey Creation and Optimization with Journeys AI

With an eye toward decreasing time to value, we launched Journeys AI – strengthened by our expanded partnership with Google Cloud. You can now instantly create a journey map and content for cross-channel messages and app + web experiences based on a simple set of inputs and conditions. 

Instead of manually mapping the journey, you can focus instead on optimizing the map and content for better conversion, or leverage generative AI to quickly produce alternative copy, images and contact sequences for continuous optimization.

Maximizing Results with Experimentation Hub

Our Experimentation Hub now offers a robust suite of tools for testing, measurement, lift analysis and controlled roll-outs to optimize campaign performance. This includes A/B and multivariate testing tools, holdout groups and feature flags — all of which allow marketers to refine messaging and experiences, and measure optimal outputs.  

Innovating Outbound Channel Experiences — Email and Mobile Wallet Updates

Cross-channel campaigns tailored to consumers’ preferences and delivered on their device of choice — the mobile phone — are now table stakes. Over the course of 2024, we introduced several improvements to our various outbound channel solutions. From enhanced click tracking in Email to multi-pass adaptive links for Mobile Wallet, we’re always looking for new ways to help you reach and influence customers on their channels of choice and help you maximize ROI.

Championing Mobile-First Customer Experience Innovation

There were many moments to celebrate outside of our platform too. Throughout the year, hundreds of customers, partners and community members joined us at various Mobile Leaders Forums across the globe — Berlin, New York, London and Atlanta — to discuss the challenges, trends and opportunities impacting customer-facing teams today. We had the opportunity to learn from leading brands, discuss timely challenges and opportunities, and even celebrate our Altitude Awards winners for pioneering memorable digital experiences for their customers.
