Get a demoWomen’s History Month is not just about looking back at the progress made — it’s about asking, what’s next? March came and went, but celebrating women’s achievements and pushing for progress shouldn’t be limited to just one month.
While progress has been made, there’s still a long way to go, especially in industries where the gender gap remains a challenge. That’s why programs like Now+Next — an association of companies operating in the data, technology and design space — are so important. Founded in 2022, Now+Next inspires real action by empowering over 6,000 female students across the UK to explore careers in industries where women have historically been underrepresented. By carving out new career pathways, we provide women with the tools and confidence to realize their full potential.
To help business leaders understand how they can celebrate and empower women in the professional world not just in March but year-round, we’ve sourced insights from leaders at Airship.
What does creating lasting change in tech look like to you? Why is it important for leaders to stay accountable in driving gender equality?

“I believe creating lasting change means transforming our commitments into daily actions that embed equity throughout every level of our organization — from hiring practices to leadership development to how we build our products. As leaders, we must hold ourselves accountable not just for setting a vision but for actively dismantling barriers that have historically limited women’s advancement in tech, measuring our progress transparently, and adapting our approach when needed.
This work is personal to me because as women who have navigated the challenges of this industry, we have both the opportunity and obligation to champion, mentor and create pathways for the next generation of women in tech who will build upon our progress.”
Virginia Llewellyn, Chief Legal & Admin Officer, Airship
Why is it so important to invest in the next generation of women in tech? How do you see mentorship or representation playing a role in that?

“At Airship, our commitment to inclusivity and respect drives our belief that investing in the next generation of women in tech is essential. By affirming that diverse individual experiences, perspectives and backgrounds make us better, we understand that this proactive focus not only helps to drive innovation and foster a more inclusive workplace, but also builds teams that reflect the world we live in. Mentorship and representation play a vital role in achieving these goals and help advancement in the workplace by overcoming the obstacles hindering women’s professional growth.”

Building an Inclusive Future at Airship
As a founding member of Now+Next, Airship is committed to driving gender equity in the tech space. I caught up with Temidayo Afonja, our Senior Director of DEI at Airship, to chat through how our organization is making strides toward a more inclusive culture.

“Women’s History Month is a time to honor the trailblazers who made space for us and reflect on how we keep that momentum alive. At Airship, we’re working to ensure that inclusion isn’t just a moment but a mindset. This year, we’re expanding our focus from representation to lived experience — how women at Airship feel supported, seen and empowered daily. From refining our onboarding practices, building global inclusive events and designing our employee experience, we foster engagement, alignment and a strong workplace culture where everyone across every identity can thrive.”
Temidayo Afonja, Senior Director of DEI, Airship
What sets Airship apart is our digital-first approach. It enables us to build flexibility, equity and intentionality into the foundation of our culture. Whether in Singapore, Paris or Portland, we strive to create experiences that feel inclusive, connected and empowering, especially for our female employees navigating the intersection of work and life.
Temidayo continues, “I’m especially proud that we’re elevating intersectional voices through initiatives like Airship FIRE (our female-employee-led ERG) and Now+Next. It’s not just about who’s at the table; it’s about shifting the culture of the table itself.”
